About
Housing and care, treated as one problem
IKON Living was formed around a straightforward observation: the quality of an older adult's life depends as much on where they live as on who helps them.
Our purpose
Seniors housing in Canada is under real pressure. Demand is rising faster than supply, families are making urgent decisions with limited information, and too much of what exists was designed around operational convenience rather than around the people living in it.
IKON Living works on both sides of that: developing residential seniors housing, and providing the care that makes a residence a home. Doing both means the building and the care model are designed for each other instead of one being fitted awkwardly into the other.
Our care philosophy
Care should follow the person. That means asking what someone's day looked like before support was needed and protecting as much of it as possible — the hour they wake, the food they like, the routines that make them feel like themselves.
It also means being honest with families. If a different provider or a public program is the better fit for a situation, we will say so.
- Dignity — assistance without diminishment
- Trust — doing the same thing on a quiet Tuesday as on a tour day
- Connection — to family, neighbours and community
- Accountability — clear ownership when something goes wrong
- Family partnership — decisions made with families, not for them
- Independence — help with what is hard, not with everything
Where we are
Edmonton first
IKON Living is based in Edmonton, Alberta, and our current focus is the Edmonton region. The way we work is designed to extend to other Alberta communities as the organisation grows, but we would rather do one region properly than claim a map we cannot serve.
